Ben Wignell

Former Professional & Full scholarship in New York USA.

“Nick has proved an integral figure throughout my life and footballing career, from the very beginning. I first met Nick when I was around 8 years old, in the summer holiday camp ran by Hartlepool United at my local school, where my love of football really became an obsession. I was signed by Sunderland but still attended the holiday camps as the sessions provided allowed me to express myself in ways that are maybe different than the norm at professional clubs.

One thing Nick always encouraged me to be was brave on the ball, not to be afraid of trying to express myself, be it with a touch, pass or piece of skill. As a player who was never gifted with natural pace, Nick always took the time to develop skills such as my touch, movement and finishing to compensate for my lack of pace. When I was 14 I was released by Sunderland and signed for Hartlepool United, where Nick was now a coach.

When I signed my YTS with Hartlepool and Nick was Youth Team coach. This time at Hartlepool was my most enjoyable and successful and Nick played a huge part in that. When I was 17 I was lucky enough to play in Hartlepools pre-season tour and feature for the first team, with Nick always on hand to offer advice and any extra help I may need. I then suffered a pretty brutal injury leaving me sidelined that season.

Again, speaking volume to Nick as a person he was always on hand to offer support, lifts to training and such as well as helping me reintegrate to the team. The summer before I returned I would take part in extra ballwork/fitness sessions with Nick to make sure I was ready for my return. That season I returned fitter than ever but some restructuring at the club meant I had fell down the pecking order.

I then had ambitions to go to America and play and Nick was the person at the club I would go to for advice and some extra help. Even though we knew my time at the club was ending, Nick would regularly take me for 1V1 sessions to ensure my level did not drop. I can not thank Nick enough for what he has done for my career, especially the help with America which prove to be the best years of my life.

I would recommend Nick to any young players looking to develop there game, using football as a passport for life journeys.

Jaimie Cogman

“Training with Billy has put me in the position I am in today. The [goalkeeper] sessions are great, always enjoyable and have helped me improve my knowledge of being a Goalkeeper.

What I found most beneficial is Billy’s knowledge base of what it takes to become a Pro. Billy has guided me through what he feels best for me and so far everything has paid off. Thanks Billy”

Cooper Skerry

Leeds United & Australia

“I was fortunate enough to work with Nick and Billy whilst playing at Nudgee College.

The knowledge base, the educational sessions & the mentorship of both coaches was priceless to my development.

In my opinion working with Nick improved my decision making as Goalkeeper working with the ball at my feet. Whilst Billy guided me on his past experiences on how to deal with playing football in England.

I highly recommend Pro-Player to any player who wants to develop their game to be the best they can be.”

Matthew Bates

“During my time at Hartlepool United, Nick was always a great coach working with the U23s &U18s. Coming back from injury I spent several weeks training with him. His sessions were always well organised, engaging & purposeful. Once I got the managers job, I used a couple of boys from Nick to play in the first team, both were sold on. I’d like to think that shows the level of trust I had in Nick!”
